Virtual field trips may include executives from successful tech companies popping in to speak to our campers about their work, and potential future career opportunities in their field.

Guest Speakers From The Following Companies:

Hands-On Introduction to Coding and Robotics

Students will learn CSS and HTML coding techniques using Scratch, an entry level block-based visual programming approach. Students will also learn Python and JavaScript as more accelerated forms of coding are introduced. The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It is a powerful little device that enables people of all ages to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python. It’s capable of doing everything you’d expect a desktop computer to do, from browsing the internet and playing high-definition video, to making spreadsheets, word-processing, and playing games.

Critical Thinking and Academic Preparations

Through the introduction of algorithms and data structures, students will learn problem-solving and critical thinking skills that they can apply in any academic arena. Scientific reasoning is utilized throughout the course with students exploring robotics with curiosity, testing their hypothesis, and drawing conclusions at the end of their project-based learning. Students will also exercise their research, analysis, writing, and presentation skills.

Lean Six Sigma White Belt

Opportunity to participate in a three-hour workshop provided by a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt instructor. This workshop will cover basic Lean principles and concepts including project management, efficiency, and quality control. Upon passing the exam which follows, students will then earn the industry-recognized Lean Six Sigma White Belt certification. This workshop and the exam are at no extra charge ($200 value!).

Examining Current Tech News

Through the use of Cyware Social and other learning sites, students will explore relevant and current topics of cybersecurity, business tech threats such as ransomware, malware through ecommerce, new threats to financial security such as Bitcoin scammers, breaches and incidents, phishing, trends, reports, and analysis and their social impact on our society.
